Mayor of Manila Honey Lacuna-Pangan emphasized that this Sunday will be a normal day, but this time will serve as a sign of respect for the legacy of Romero in Philippine culture and arts. In her statement, Mayor Lacuna-Pangan proclaimed January 27 as a day of raising the flag with prayers for Romero, her family, and admirers. She also emphasized the significant contribution of actors to Philippine cinema, reflecting the deep gratitude of the city for Romero's impactful career.
Romero, who passed away at the age of 91 on January 24, worked in cinema for more than seven decades. Her last film appearance was in "Rainbow's End" in 2018, where she was awarded a prize for Best Actress for her role as Sylvia.
