Bulusan Volcano Registers 69 Volcanic Earthquakes

The Bulusan Volcano in the province of Sorsogon has recorded 69 volcanic earthquakes in five days, reports the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). According to PHIVOLCS, published in a bulletin on Sunday, of these, 42 were volcanic tremors with durations from one to 16 minutes.

The day after the eruption, the volcano expelled approximately 1,103 tons of gray diatomite, and PHIVOLCS also reported on the accumulation of volcanic ash and the continuing build-up of volcanic construction. The Local Alert Level 1 regime, indicating a low level of unrest, is still in effect.

PHIVOLCS reiterates that a permanent danger zone of four kilometers is established for the airspace of aircraft from the volcano due to the risk of sudden explosive bursts or phreatic eruptions. Over the last two such phreatic eruptions on April 28 and 30, ashfall affected nearby towns.
