The film's director, based on the scandalous life of Filipino actress Pepsi Paloma in the 1980s, announced that the movie will not be released in theaters according to the schedule. In a Facebook post, he stated that he could not provide the required documentation to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). "It was impossible on our side to operationally complete the collection of necessary documents requested by the MTRCB administration," Yap said. "Because of this, the film will not be able to be released on February 5." Yap is considering the possibility of screening the film outside of the Philippines or via streaming platforms. He also noted that several premieres are already scheduled for February and March. "This month there’s already stiff competition, but as soon as we’re requested documents, we will find available dates for the screening," he added. The preliminary registration division of MTRCB stated that they cannot accept materials from the distributor of the film Pinoyflix due to missing documents. The agency clarified that their legal department required from the distributor to present three specific requirements: a testimony that there are no unresolved criminal, civil, or administrative cases in the regional court, Ministry of Justice, and with the prosecutor’s office. The film has sparked controversy since the trailer indicated the actor and television host Vika Sotto in a role related to Paloma, prompting him to file a complaint against Yap. The court instructed the director to remove a 26-second trailer from the online platform "due to unauthorized use of collected information," however, he was allowed to continue production and release of the film.
