Transportation Minister Wins Dizon announced that the Manila metropolitan transport (MRT-3) will extend work hours by one hour, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) stated on Monday, March 17. The ministry noted that a final decision has yet to be made on when the new work schedule will come into effect.
"In order to alleviate congestion for passengers during peak hours, Dizon also recommended increasing the number of trips on the line. Currently, the last train on weekdays leaves the North Avenue station at 21:30, and from Taft at 22:11," the statement said.
"We are waiting for further instructions before implementing extended work hours. Previously, he assured the public that the government and operators of the trains 'will find a way' to meet the demand for extended working hours."
Dizon made this recommendation after inspecting several MRT-3 stations, including Taft, Ayala, and Shaw Boulevard, on Monday.
