Josephine P. Narvasa, a 54-year-old nurse-midwife originally from Butuan City, has spent more than three decades delivering thousands of babies during her career. For the past 14 years, she has been working at a prestigious hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Josephine's dedication to her work is evident as she shared her belief in working with passion and keeping God at the center of everything she does.
Her eldest son is an ambulance nurse in New York, while another son works as a nautical third mate in the UAE. With her children on the cusp of graduating from college, Josephine is contemplating retirement. When that time comes, her plan is to return to the Philippines to continue serving in her church.
In 2023, she was recognized as one of the Top Filipino Healthcare Professionals in the Middle East by The Filipino Times Watchlist, an honor that she truly deserved. Looking back, Josephine reflected on her journey, mentioning that she started as a midwife at Butuan Doctors’ Hospital before working in Saudi Arabia and eventually landing in the UAE.
Throughout her years as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), Josephine has seen the fruits of her labor, enabling her family to live more comfortably. Her dedication to hard work and saving diligently has allowed them to invest in properties and a business in the Philippines.
Despite the challenges and sacrifices that come with being an OFW, Josephine remains grateful for the opportunities that have come her way. Her faith in God and perseverance have been the guiding forces in her life, from her humble beginnings as a sidewalk vendor to becoming a respected healthcare professional abroad.
Looking ahead, Josephine aims to continue saving and helping others, especially street children and abandoned elderly individuals in the Philippines. She encourages her fellow OFWs to prioritize what truly matters, to save diligently, and not to be swayed by material possessions. Josephine's story is a testament to the resilience and unwavering spirit of Filipino workers abroad, embodying the values of hard work, dedication, and generosity. Her commitment to serving others and making a difference serves as an inspiration to all.
