In a tragic automotive accident at the terminal drop-off area 1 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), two people died and three were injured when a black sports utility vehicle crashed into a line of people, authorities confirmed. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed to reporters that a 5-year-old girl, the daughter of a Filipino national working abroad, and an adult male were among the victims. "We express our condolences, especially to the OFW who lost his daughter today. He only brought his family, including his daughter, and look what happened," Dizon said. He added that three injured individuals are under observation at the San Juan de Dios hospital. Dizon stated that although it seems the collision was not intentional, authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the incident. The driver of the vehicle is under the protection of the Philippine National Police (PNP). The incident happened around 8:00 AM when passengers and their companions were waiting near the terminal entrance. According to New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the airport operator, the vehicle was initially at the terminal entrance when it suddenly accelerated, crashing through a barricade and colliding with the pedestrian crossing. "The territory was secured, and now access is only permitted to designated personnel of New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and MIAA security services, which are currently conducting a full investigation," the statement said. NNIC President Ramon Ang expressed profound regret regarding the incident and promised unwavering support to the victims and their families. He pledged to cover medical expenses for the victims and provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased. "This is a very tragic incident. Our priority right now is to ensure that the victims and their families receive the necessary support and care," Ang said. "I spoke with the father today, he is OFW. It is heartbreaking."
