During the NCAA Season 100 game featuring the Lyceum Pirates and the Arellano Chiefs, a dramatic moment unfolded when Pirates player JM Bravo collapsed on the court in the fourth quarter. Bravo, who was earlier sidelined for the season due to a spine injury, had been cleared to rejoin the team for the second round. Despite concerns about his injury, Bravo chose to play but collapsed after a head collision with Arellano University’s Renzo Abiera.
Following the incident, Bravo was immediately taken to Cardinal Santos Medical Center for evaluation after being stretchered off the court. Fortunately, hours later, he regained consciousness and was even able to communicate with Pirates head coach Gilbert Malalabanan and NCAA management committee chairman Hercules Callanta. A CT scan was performed, and Bravo is currently under concussion protocol for further observation.
In a statement, head coach Malalabanan expressed relief that Bravo was conscious and communicating. He noted that the team was grateful for the swift medical response from the league and the hospital. The NCAA management committee chairman, Callanta, also emphasized the importance of player safety and stated that they would continue to monitor Bravo's condition closely. The incident served as a reminder of the physical risks involved in competitive sports and the significance of prompt medical attention in such situations.
