Filipino actress Carla Abellana saved a dog that was hit by a car on the NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) in the Philippines. In her Instagram post, Abellana shared the story of how they became witnesses to a local breed dog, a mestiza, getting run over on the expressway.
"The cry of the dog broke my heart. What a weird thing," the actress wrote.
Abellana named the dog "Shchenk", explaining that she couldn't think of another name for him. She urged all road users to be careful to avoid hitting animals on the road.
"Please, everyone, be careful not to hit animals on the road," the actress concluded.
She also added: "I just kept petting him on the head and ears, telling him that if he continued to fight, he would have a chance to eat some chicken, rice, and even steaks with us. I had to ask Kuya Bong (my driver) to stop immediately. And if there is only a chance to save the life, please do it."
"He weighed just over 7kg, had such a sleek demeanor and a cute little face. No male-female distinction. His test results showed no signs of infections or organ damage. But he was still a stray. I beg you," the actress pleaded.
"At that moment, I knew we had to hurry to take him to the nearest 24/7 veterinary clinic," she said.
While en route to the veterinary clinic, Abellana said a quick prayer and even placed her prayer beads on the dog's head. "I also told him that he was such a blessed little boy, because he got the chance to be taken off the road," she added.
"When we arrived at the 24/7 veterinary clinic, I was convinced that they would immediately examine him. I could see his wounds at that moment," Abellana added.
The actress said the dog is now doing well and has already been released from the veterinary clinic. "The veterinarian came out and said: 'He is so strong! I couldn’t leave him there - alive or not,'" Abellana wrote.
She revealed that they parked the car by the road and found "the victim of the run-over", which they discovered lying in a bush along the usual roads, stagnant. "He was skin and bones, looked very young and wasn’t cold to the touch."
