
Officials in the Philippines reported that at least eight people were killed when a powerful typhoon, Manny, hit the country at the beginning of the week, accompanied by strong winds. One of the official representatives of the region said: "We confirm the death of eight people, most of whom died as a result of landslides in mountainous areas". Rescuers and emergency services continue to work in the disaster areas, providing assistance to survivors and conducting evacuations of people from danger zones.
