MTRCB Clarifies Film Review Status on Pepsi Paloma

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) announced on January 29 that the film about the late actress Pepsi Paloma is not currently under review by the board. The distributor of the film, Pinoyflix, was not able to submit complete materials necessary for the review process.

The MTRCB clarified that the film's submission was not accepted by its registration unit due to missing documents required by the legal affairs division. Among these documents is a certificate or clearance demonstrating that there are no pending criminal, civil, or administrative cases against the distributor from various legal entities.

In response to the situation, the MTRCB emphasized that it had informed Pinoyflix about the necessary requirements and cautioned against spreading misinformation about the status of the film. The board stated that any attempts to mislead the public would be addressed in accordance with the law.

The film has sparked controversy, particularly after its teaser drew connections between actor Vic Sotto and the rape case involving Paloma. As a result, Sotto filed a cyberlibel complaint against the film's director, Darryl Yap. Following legal proceedings, a court ruled for the removal of the 26-second teaser from online platforms due to the misuse of information. However, the court permitted Yap to proceed with the production and eventual release of the full film.
