Recently, former President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte expressed allegations against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. about the use of narcotics, suggesting that at the age of 80, he could end up in a state of incapacity. "There may be one president who is currently using narcotics. Marcos could be one of them. He is not an idiot, but narcotics – that is a long-term issue," Duterte stated. It should be noted that this commentary was made during a meeting regarding the nomination of candidates from the Democratic Party in the Senate of the Philippines. Duterte also indicated that although Marcos is not 'crazy,' his possible addiction to narcotics may be linked to prolonged use of methamphetamine, which could eventually lead to his immobility. This is not the first time Duterte has made similar statements; in 2024, he claimed that the federal agency fighting narcotics provided him with evidence of Marcos's drug use, which served as grounds for the president to accuse Duterte of using fentanyl. At the same time, the president's spokesperson Marcos, Liza Araneta-Marcos, acknowledged that they are distancing themselves from Vice-President Sara Duterte due to ongoing allegations.
