The Supreme Court of the Philippines has classified the impeachment petition against Vice President Sara Duterte as urgent, highlighting the serious nature of the allegations and expediting proceedings.

The Supreme Court classified the petition as "urgent", in which a call for the convening of the court and an impeachment for the removal from the position of Vice President Sara Duterte was requested. During a press briefing on Tuesday, February 18, the representative of the United States Kamille Ting stated that the court acted quickly, since "the impeachment is a matter of national scale... consequently the seriousness of the issue".

"In general, the Supreme Court must determine whether the impeachment procedure or the rules of the impeachment of the Constitution are applicable, and if there is an abuse of authority on the part of the Senate," she explained.

Catalino Generillo Jr. in his petition on the indictment asked the Senate to require that he be convened as a court of impeachment and started the consideration of the case. The United States required from the Senate to present its conclusions within 10 days. Senate Chairman Chiz Escudero previously stated that the impeachment process could begin in July after the Sending on the state of the nation.

The impeachment chamber accused Duterte of corruption regarding the President, the First Lady, and the Speaker of the House, as well as regarding the proposed unallocated spending of 612.5 million Filipino pesos from confidential funds.
