Cesar Chavez has stepped down from his position as acting chief of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) effective February 28, 2025, or sooner if a successor is named. This decision was communicated in a statement where Chavez mentioned that he submitted his resignation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on February 5, 2025.
Despite his resignation, Chavez assured that he continues to support the administration’s goals and expressed his intention to remain dedicated to public service beyond his government role. He conveyed his appreciation to the president for the chance to serve, considering it a significant honor.
In his statement, Chavez also addressed a sense of disappointment, admitting that he believes he did not meet the expected standards. He stated, “Although there is much for which I am grateful and a long list of people to thank, I leave with only one regret: in my estimation, I have fallen short of what was expected of me.”
While Chavez did not provide explicit reasons for his resignation, he highlighted his unwavering commitment to honesty and public duty during his time in office. Chavez took on the role of PCO acting secretary in September 2024, succeeding Cheloy Garafil, and became the third communications chief within the Marcos administration.
