The official representative of the palace stated that for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., it would be "unequivocal" to call a special session of Congress to continue the impeachment process regarding Vice President Sara Duterte. At a press conference, the palace press secretary and deputy minister for relations with the public Cleer Castro stated that the president's position on this issue remains unchanged.
"We believe that it would be unequivocal for the president to voluntarily initiate a special session, considering the current intrigues, suggesting that the president stands for impeachment," Castro said. "Therefore, the best situation for the president, if the Senate requests him, considering that even the president stated that if the Senate were to request him to call a special session, he would do so," she added.
Castro noted that the provision in the Constitution, stipulating that "matters in the Senate must not be delayed and without precedent should continue," is a gray area.
"Should this matter continue to be addressed without delay even during a (congressional) recess? Because it can continue indefinitely in the case of a session, there are no questions here. But continuing during recess is a gray area in the Constitution," Castro said.
