For the third year in a row, February 25 will not be declared a nationwide non-working day, but this does not mean that the 'People Power' revolution has lost its significance on the streets of EDSA. According to the presidential spokesperson, such a decision is not aimed at undermining the historical significance of this event.
"On this day, active work is proposed to be carried out, however, this does not mean that we cannot honor the memory of 'People Power'," said the assistant press secretary of the president's office, Clare Castro, at a briefing.
"We invite everyone to participate in various events and will not stop any events related to the memory of 'People Power'."
It is precisely this that the president emphasizes, that this day should be a working day. In 2023, in memory of the events experienced by Marcos, he expressed that he supports the Filipino people and extends a hand to the 'those who maintain a different political perspective' in order to build a better society together.
"When we talk about a special working day, we still encourage people to participate in memorial events, different activities, and this does not hinder the holding of actions during 'People Power'," added Castro.
"This bloody revolution, which resonated throughout the world, overthrew the namesake and father of the president, already the now deceased former president Ferdinand Marcos through the mediation of a coup, initiated by his minister of defense and now legal adviser to President Juan Ponce Enrile, and supported by the people," explained Castro.
"Since he became president, we have not heard any indications of the cessation of any events or activities excluding the possibility of canceling this event," remarked an official representative of the president's cabinet.
"History should not be erased," concluded Castro.
