Vice President Sara Duterte Faces Accusations of Disinformation

The representative of the courthouse accused Vice President Sara Duterte of spreading disinformation in response to her statements about First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. The deputy minister of communications, Claire Castro, dismissed Duterte's recent remarks as 'fake news', after the vice president implied that the first lady was involved in an incident related to narcotics in the USA, including a police report that, according to her, linked her to the death of a drug overdose.

Castro put under scrutiny the credibility of the statement made by the vice president and called it a source of false information. She noted that first lady Marcos was in the Philippines on March 10, 2025, around the time of a possible event. Castro also clarified that the first lady participated in an event with Herlz Scouts in the Philippines on March 11, the same day that former president Duterte was arrested in The Hague.

The representative of the courthouse concluded that Duterte should verify the information before its publication and asked whether the public should trust the statements of a leader spreading similar disinformation.
