Comelec Upholds Disqualification of PBBM Party-list

The Commission on Elections in the Philippines has confirmed the disqualification of the Pilipinas Babangon Muli Party-list for the 2025 elections due to misrepresentation. The ruling states the party falsely declared itself as a regional entity, violating registration requirements. Comelec emphasizes that this ruling could become final unless the party secures a court order.

Comelec Upholds Disqualification of PBBM Party-list

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed the decision to disqualify and cancel the registration of the Pilipinas Babangon Muli (PBBM) party from participating in the 2025 elections, citing falsification of information. In a 10-page ruling, the commission dismissed the party's motion for reconsideration, upholding an earlier decision by a Second Division, which found that PBBM falsely declared itself as a regional party for Calabarzon while nominating candidates from other regions, including Abra, Kagay'an, and Kesson City. Comelec noted that such actions violate the requirements of regional political parties and involve false statements in their registration petition. The party argued that residency in Region IV-A was not required according to its charter, but the commission found this to be clearly contrary to their registration statement. The chairman of Comelec, George Erwin Garcia, stated that the college's decision confirmed the fact of falsification of information and rejected the assertion that if the party does not receive a temporary ban from the Supreme Court, the decision will quickly take effect. Meanwhile, the press service of MalacaƱang previously clarified that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has no connection to the suspended party.
