According to reports, the incident occurred in an area claimed by China. Filipino fishing boats were attacked by China Coast Guard ships, which used water cannons, causing damage to the vessels and injuries to the crew. Additionally, their mooring lines were cut, leaving the fishermen adrift.
"We were just trying to fish to feed our families," one of the injured fishermen was quoted as saying. "Suddenly, large ships attacked us and mercilessly blasted us with water."
