Deputy Senate Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros on Monday said she remains open to running for president or vice president in the 2028 elections, if chosen by a united opposition. In a press conference, Hontiveros stressed her willingness to take on any role needed to strengthen the opposition and present credible candidates for the 2028 polls. "I remain open, I remain willing, and my condition is the same as I have been saying for a long time—if chosen by the united opposition," she said. "Because that is also what I have been saying for a long time, that the opposition needs, if we are to fight in 2028, and that is my intention and desire to fight in 2028, to offer our people the strongest and most credible candidate." When asked if former vice president and current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo is still considered the opposition's potential standard-bearer, Hontiveros said specific names are not the priority at this stage. What matters is unity within the opposition. Hontiveros also acknowledged the possibility of pro-Marcos groups approaching the opposition ahead of the elections. "If they ever approach, that would be the subject of intense thought and discussion in our ranks because, because of the very different histories," she said. "But for anyone, not just them, other groups outside of Kakampinks or outside the opposition ranks, of course, the basis for any possibility of unity would be that—enough common values."
