Joint Investigation Proposal on Extrajudicial Killings

House Committee Chair Rep. Robert Ace Barbers suggests a joint Senate and House investigation into alleged extrajudicial killings during the Duterte administration's war on drugs to expedite the process.

Joint Investigation Proposal on Extrajudicial Killings

Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, the House Quad Committee Lead Co-Chairperson, is contemplating a suggestion to have the Senate and the House of Representatives collaborate on probing the alleged extrajudicial killings linked to President Duterte's anti-drug campaign.

Barbers pointed out that combining the efforts of both chambers could lead to a broader, more comprehensive investigation with a higher number of informed questions from the committee members. He proposed a joint committee hearing involving both the Senate and the Congress to streamline the process.

In agreement with Barbers, Rep. Dan Fernandez, Chairperson of the House Committee on Public Order and Safety, emphasized that such a move would facilitate and expedite the proceedings. Fernandez supported the idea of merging the efforts of the Senate and the Congress to ensure a more efficient investigative process.

"If the Senate has it, the House should too, so why don't we just merge them? A joint committee hearing. Congress is there, the Senate is there, and our investigation is there. It's like a bicameral approach," Barbers stated, suggesting the formation of a joint committee hearing, bringing together the resources and expertise of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
