ICC Investigates Duterte's War on Drugs

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is closely monitoring events related to the administration of Rodrigo Duterte and its campaign against drug users in the Philippines. In a statement for NewsWatch Plus, the ICC confirmed that its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity during the presidency of Rodrigo Duterte is ongoing. The investigation covers actions committed from November 1, 2011, to March 16, 2019.

"The Prosecutor's office of the ICC continues its investigation regarding the situation in the Philippines," said the ICC. The Office of the Prosecutor specified that its investigation is based on a diverse array of source materials, including communications under Article 15, information from states, international partners, and civil society, public information, and direct collection of evidence by the office, including interviews with witnesses.

"In this context, the Office is closely monitoring events in the Philippines, assessing their significance for its ongoing investigation," added the ICC. The ICC refrained from commenting on whether recent investigations by Senate and House committees might influence its drug war investigation.

"Regarding the questions on the details of the Office's investigations, the Office does not comment on operational questions related to ongoing investigations," the ICC added.
