President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declined to comment on the recent remarks of Vice President Sara Duterte related to the late President Marcos at the heroes' cemetery. "I better not do that," Marcos said when asked about it during a visit to his late father's grave on January 1. Last month, Duterte stated she had informed Senator Aimee Marcos, Marcos' sister, that if attacks against her did not stop, she would reveal details of the former president's remains.
"Someday, I will go there. But it is insufficient to simply say 'rest in peace,'" Marcos said. "For my father to rest in peace, we need to continue the work he started, continue to improve the Philippines and love the Filipinos," he added. "After all, this is what we want for my father."
"I will take your father's remains and throw them into the Western Philippine Sea," Duterte announced. When asked if he had ties to the vice president's "no-retreat point," Marcos responded, "Let's discuss this another time." During the visit to his late father's grave, Marcos was accompanied by his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, and several supporters. The president stressed that for his father to "rest in peace," it is necessary to continue his legacy and unfinished work. "You know, when someone dies, we write RIP there, 'rest in peace.'"
