The first deputy president believes that the change in flexible work schedules for employees of federal agencies may help to address the traffic problem in Manila. He noted that if everyone agrees with the proposal, he sees no reason why it could provoke objections.

The Manila M.U.S. stated last week that local mayors are completing work on the proposal to the president regarding flexible work hours. According to this M.U.S., changing flexible work hours led to a negligible improvement in commute time on the main roads by 1.23 percent, while the speed of movement increased by more than 3.6 percent.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated that the government at this moment is considering proposals for changing working hours for national agencies as a measure to alleviate the traffic problem. The mayors initially regulated work hours in May 2024 to help improve the situation on the city's roads. Mayor San-Huan and the president of the Manila Council, Francis Zamora, supported the proposal to extend this initiative to other government agencies.

The chairman of the M.U.S. Romando Artes stated that they believe if all national agencies adopt the work schedule from 7 to 16 hours, the positive effect will be noticeable. The president also emphasized the need to engage passenger feedback for this purpose. According to him, if you start working an hour earlier during peak hours, it is possible to avoid high transport volumes.

He also added that if the plan proves to be effective, it will be implemented.
