House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos assured the public that the House of Representatives will not block any impeachment complaint filed against his father, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He added that it is the constitutional duty of the House to act on all impeachment complaints. "The House must listen to any impeachment complaint that will be filed, even if it is against my father," Marcos said in a statement. The statement comes four days after lawyer Andre de Jesus filed an impeachment complaint against the president. As majority leader, Marcos is responsible for referring all impeachment complaints included in the Calendar of Business and read in plenary to the House Committee on Justice. "Congress has a constitutional duty to refer the impeachment complaint to the House Committee on Justice once it is placed in the Order of Business and read in plenary," he explained. The complaint, endorsed by Pusong Pinoy party-list Rep. Jett Nisay, cites alleged betrayal of public trust, including: • Ordering and enabling the detention and surrender of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC) • Being a drug addict, which allegedly impairs his judgment and leadership • Failing to veto unprogrammed appropriations and other unconstitutional provisions in the 2023–2026 national budgets • Benefiting from kickbacks linked to budget insertions and ghost flood control projects • Creating the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to protect allies accused of corruption. Two other groups also attempted to file impeachment complaints against the President, but the Office of the House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil did not receive them on January 22, as she was abroad on official business.
