At the Sammit of Aviation 2024 in the Pasay City, Transportation Minister Jaime Bautista defended the recent increase in parking tariffs at Ninoy Aquino International Airport. He noted that other collections, including landing and take-off fees, have already been increased. The standard parking rate at Ninoy Aquino remains relatively accessible compared to other parking facilities. The last tariff change was in 2000," Bautista said.
He acknowledged that increased airport fees are necessary to secure NNIC, the new NAIA operator under San Miguel's management, and to acquire investment incomes in airport reconstruction projects. He noted that the overnight parking cost rose from 300 to 1200 Philippine pesos.
Bautista pointed out that besides parking tariffs, various collections related to the airport have also increased, such as landing, take-off, and standing fees. He acknowledged that the increase in the overnight parking tariff was significant, but noted that parking at the airport should not be used for overnight stays.
"The airport should not be used for overnight parking. It should be intended for passengers, for those who arrive to pick someone up," Bautista stated.
The new NAIA Infrastructure Corporation introduced new parking tariffs on October 1. Bautista clarified that the Administrative Order of the Management of the Manila International Airport was developed by the Asian Development Bank and served as the basis for these changes.
"The increase is considerably significant. The first two hours for vehicles rose from 40 to 50 Philippine pesos, with an additional 25 pesos for each subsequent hour. This also allows them to recoup their investments," Bautista added.
