The Philippine Coast Guard has announced the deaths of at least 51 people after the passenger and cargo ferry 'MV Trisha Kristine 3' sank off the coast of the Philippines. The ferry sank on the night of January 26th, approximately one nautical mile from Basilan province. It was carrying 332 passengers and 27 crew members. Initial reports indicated that the incident was due to technical reasons. The Coast Guard reported that their divers recovered five more bodies on Tuesday during a search and rescue operation in the waters near Basilan province, bringing the total death toll from the incident to 51 people. Meanwhile, the number of survivors reached 316. The ferry was traveling on a route between Zamboanga City and Basilan province.
