Manila, Feb. 11 — The death toll from the sinking of a ferry off the coast of Basilan province in southern Philippines, which occurred on Jan. 26, has risen to 52, while 27 people remain missing, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Wednesday. Following verification with various involved parties, the PCG stated that the total number of people on board the MV Trisha Kerstin 3 was reconciled to 372. The agency released the updated figures after a two-week investigation into the incident, according to a Xinhua report accessed by Argentine News Agency. The number of confirmed survivors is 293, following an exhaustive identity verification process that included both passengers listed on the official manifest and undeclared crew members, the agency noted.
